Agrupamento de Escolas Marinha Grande Poente (AEMGP) is situated in Marinha Grande, a town characterised by a strong technological component, innovation and entrepreneurship. The school cluster consists of 10 schools, at about 265 teachers and 2830 students, including 255 pupils with special educational needs and 323 foreign students. The school´s headmaster fosters new projects, which enhance learning through challenges, developing critical thinking, creativity and entrepreneurship, and the creation of personalized learning environments. The promotion of European citizenship activities and democracy values are other priorities, as well.
In 2012/2013 AEMGP integrated the network of TEIP schools (Educational Priority Intervention Programme), in 2016/2017 it implemented a Pedagogical Innovation Project (PIP), challenged by the Ministry of Education (DGE) and in 20017/18 it integrated the project INCLUDE-ED, strategies for inclusion and social cohesion in Europe in education, coordinated by the University Barcelona and endorsed by the DGE. These projects aim at promoting new teaching and assessment methods, project-based learning, development of key competences, social, language, digital and entrepreneurial skills.
It is an inclusive school, where special needs pupils have an adapted curriculum and teachers work collaboratively with the special needs staff.
AEMGP is a reference school in terms of ICT - Information and Communications Technology.
Multilingualism is another cornerstone of the school´s project, English is taught in bilingual classes in Pre-school and primary school. In 2013 it joined the Pilot Project for German - PEPA (signed protocol with the Ministry of Education, the Agency for Qualification and Professional Training, the Association of German Teachers and the Goethe-Institut), in 2015 the Pilot Project for Mandarin (signed protocol with Hanban - Office of Chinese Language Council International and IPL - Polytechnic Institut of Leiria). Portuguese as a foreign language is offered to a small community of immigrants, pupils and parents.
AEMGP has been honoured twice as an Intercultural School by the Ministry of Education and the High Commission for Immigration and Intercultural Dialogue, i. P. (ACIDI).
AEMGP will improve its quality and the relevance of learning opportunities through the exchange of knowledge and implementation of multiple activities promoting the use of key competences, language and digital skills. Participation in the project with international partners benefits both pupils and teachers, as the project enables them to personal development, collaborative work and sharing of ideas and concepts.
With regard to its ecological commitment, six out of 10 school have “Eco-School Club”, concerned about environmental education for sustainability; the school cluster has been honored with the “Eco-School” quality label.
